Portals Vells is a unique natural setting near Magaluf with three beaches: Portals Vells, Playa del Mago and Playa del Rey.
Portals Vells beach, also known as Sa Caleta, is one of the most spectacular natural spots in south-west Mallorca. Located about 9 km from Magaluf, it stands out for its scenic beauty, crystal-clear waters and setting surrounded by pine trees, cliffs and small caves. This inlet opens up between the headlands of Es Xisclet and S’Estaca, forming a group of three coves: Portals Vells, Playa del Mago and Playa del Rey, each with its own character and surrounded by a protected natural environment. Protected natural environment Portals Vells is surrounded by a dense pine forest stretching between Cap de Cala Figuera and Refalbetx, an area included in the catalogue of Natural Areas of Special Interest (ANEI) and in the European network of Special Protection Areas for Birds (SPA). Nearby lies the famous Cova de la Mare de Déu, a former marés quarry used in the 14th and 15th centuries for the construction of Palma Cathedral and the church of Santa Eulàlia, which adds significant historical value to the area. Access and parking Access to Portals Vells is straightforward: From Magaluf, continue towards Son Ferrer. Approximately 1.5 km before reaching it, follow the signs to Portals Vells. There is free parking in the immediate vicinity. From the car park, access to Sa Caleta is on foot. Anchorage and water sports The area is highly regarded for water-based activities: Excellent for boat anchorage and snorkelling. Beach open to easterly and south-easterly winds. Seabed of sand and seaweed at a depth of around 5 metres. A popular spot for recreational boating.
