Fuente del Obis (R2 - 008)

Discover ancient underground galleries that ingeniously channeled water to the surface, showcasing historical water management in a dry, harsh landscape.
Without water, there was nothing This place was not chosen by chance. There was water here. For centuries, people dug underground to find it. These are the ‘fuentes de mina’: underground galleries that collect water and channel it to the surface without any mechanical devices, relying solely on the force of gravity. This system, likely of Al-Andalus origin, made life possible in a dry and harsh landscape. But it was not a free resource. It formed part of the system of ownership and control of the land… and of the people. It was used for drinking, for crops and for livestock. Everything depended on water. This spring dried up in 1995, probably due to changes in the underground water flow. What happens when the very thing on which everything depends disappears?
