When you have no land… you make it
Everything seems peaceful now. But this land was carved out of the forest by sheer necessity.
For centuries, poor peasant families—the roters—transformed the scrubland into farmland. They felled trees, set fires, broke up the soil and built walls so they could sow their crops.
They lived here, on the edge of the estate. They were the poorest of the poor. For many, coming here wasn’t a choice: it was their last resort.
They worked for just a share of the harvest… if all went well.
The soil was poor and often became exhausted. When it stopped producing, they had to start all over again.
Through their hard work, they transformed the landscape you see today. Their traces remain.
And you, what would you be willing to do… to avoid starving to death?
